Arriving in Denver on Thanksgiving day, we were greeted
with "unusual" cool weather (as we were told). But it was nice and warm at Chantal
and Andrew's beautiful home, where a turkey dinner awaited us. Good wine, hearty
food, and lovely company -- just how
Thanksgiving was meant to be! |
The next day we went hiking in Eldorado Canyon,
where the rocks were red against the blue sky. Even in the cool weather, the rock faces were dotted
with a few climbers. |

The really cool weather started on Saturday, when clouds
covered the sky. We spent the afternoon exploring the Denver Nature and Science Museum, which has an impressive collection of
all kinds of rocks, animals, and prehistoric creatures in mineral form. After tea at the palace hotel,
we headed to the Buckhorn exchange. |

At the
Buckhorn exchange, Denver's oldest restaurant proudly displays the
first Colorado liquer licence. We devoured buffalo and elk steaks under the gaze of many a animal heads hanging
on the walls, including a two-headed cow and the mythical jackalope. After dinner, there was cowboy
poetry upstairs. |

It snowed all day on Sunday. Which made it just the right
weather to laze around at home, sip coffee, tinker on the piano (here's an excerpt of Matthew and I playing a
duet), watch birds coming to feed, and go see a movie
or two. |

Monday brought sunshine, and it looked like a winter
wonderland. |

Driving out to Boulder, the mountains
(actually mostly the foothills) looked splendid in their snowy cover. Prairie dogs were busy making tunnels
in the fields. A tour through the Celestial Seasonings Tea factory
was a quite fun. Nearby was the Leanin' Tree
Museum that exhibits nice Western art. We also dropped
by to admire the newly built Xilinx office, which looks almost like a ski lodge. |

It was time to leave. We said goodbye to Chantal and our
plane took off towards the snowy mountains... Byebye Denver... Oops,
there was a great big noise coming from the bottom of the aircraft and we were returning to Denver!
So we spent another hour or so in the airport, but then a different plane took us away, and it's really
goodbye this time, for a while.
