September 2001. In Pfeiffer State Park, we hiked through a coastal redwood forest to a little waterfall.

| We had all seen pictures of the pretty waterfall that plunges directly to the sea. The real life version was a delightful scene. On the misty coast at Julia Pfeiffer Burns Park, eucalyptus trees smelt wonderful. |
|
Driving across the Big Sur Mountains (Santa Lucia?) we ascended to the top of a sea of clouds. Down below in the east, a valley of oak trees and vineyards awaited us. |

| After baking on a trail in the midday sun we were thankful for Balconies caves, cool in temperature and otherwise. Then it's time for some climbing. Pinnacles's volcanic rocks are crumbly, but it was still fun to climb! |
