On July 26, 2003, we seven sailors from three countries spanning
three generations (from age 4 to age 76) boarded the Norwegian
Sky in Seattle, starting an exploration of two new territories,
Alaska, and the phenomenon that is the cruiseship. Along with 2000 fellow passengers
(most of them in their senior years), and 1000 crew members (from 60 different countries),
we went up the Inside Passage to
Ketchikan, then
Juneau and Sawyer Glacier, then up the Lynn canal to
Skagway and Haines. Finally, we rode the Outside Passage
back through Victoria.
